Morgan takes the win at A-1 Raceway and the points lead!
Saturday, July 17th
by Wendy Carrier

Cajun Sprinters Association put on a great show with lots of action. After mother nature poured down on A-1 Raceway for the past several weeks making it a rough track to race on for the heat races, but for the final event it was great racing.

Heat I
As drivers took the track for heat one, the green flag fell and #06 Jason Breeland shot out to take the led. It looked to be Breeland’s race all the way, but on lap 6 mechanical failure took him out allowing #15 Justin McKenzie to take the win followed by #09 Timmy Thrash, #02 Brandon Olsen.

Heat II
When heat II took the track #32M Moe Douroux dominated most of this race, but on the last lap, #9 Lane Whittington proved his dominance by sliding by at the checkered flag with #32m Moe Douroux, #20 Casey Hinds, #83 Herman Carrier, #43 Richard Beasley and #11 Carl Zaniboni.

Heat III
This heat immediately brought out the red on the first lap with #28 Rusty Sanford taking a terrible spill and finishing his night of competition. When the race resumed, it was #01 Shane Morgan all the way to the checkered flag followed by #32 Hunter Phillips, #68 Terry Vidrine, #19 Rodney Mckenzie  and #17 Adam Moneyhun.

Feature Event
When it came time for the feature event, 18 cars completed the field. Unfortunately, the first lap brought out a caution when a huge pile up took out #83 Herman Carrier as he had no place to go and wheel hopped and then flipped over coming out of turn 3 demolishing his Spiderman #83. As the race resumed two laps later, another red came out for the #17 Adam Moneyhun when he hit a hole in the track and also turned over taking him out for the night as well. But when the race resumed, it went caution free for the remainder of the race with #01 Shane Morgan taking the win and the points led by 2pts.
Thanks to Ronnie Marshall and his staff for a fast track

Herrington sneaks by for the win at Baton Rouge Raceway!
By Wendy Carrier

The Cajun Sprinters traveled to Baton Rouge Raceway on June 19th 2010, where 19 cars took the field in some competitive wheel to wheel action.

The Track appeared to be on grove throughout the heat races and the finishes proved it to be so. Heat I started 7cars but no passing occurred and all cars finished. #36 Chris Thornton taking the checkered followed by #68 Terry Vidrine, #02 Brandon Olsen, #20 Casey Hinds, #32 Hunter Phillips, #00 Ed Lee, and #32M Moe Douroux rounding out the field.

Well when heat II came out once again it was caution free and fast with only one groove and no passing. #09 Timmy Thrash took the win followed by #9 Lane Whittington, #7 Michael Herrington, #6 Michael Miller, #17 Adam Moneyhun and #15 Justin McKenzie.

By heat III, it was definitely going to be warm ups for what was going to be a GREAT feature event. Heat III was also caution free with everyone finishing right where they started with #01 Shane Morgan taking the win followed by #49 Ty Johnson, #06 Jason Breeland, #83 Herman Carrier, #14 Chris Hoyt and #19 Rodney McKenzie finishing heat III.

During intermission the Cajuns once again proved just how family oriented they are. They threw wiz rings and gave autographs to as many of the children they could and then, the top 8 qualifiers drew numbers for position but the each driver picked a child out of the crowd and after they drew the driver would give that child a die cast sprint car provided by the official souvenir trailer.

Once the line-up was set it was #68 Terry Vidrine who would led the rest of the field to the green flag, but once he took the green, #68 Vidrine was way off the pace then spun in the center of turn 1 and 2. The restart put #9 Lane Whittington on the pole and then the crowd came to their feet cheering him on.  The second caution came on lap 9 as #20 Casey Hind spun out. When the race resumed it was the #9 jumping out to the led and keeping it not knowing just like the race before a sneak attack was brewing but his time it was not #09 Thrash it was # 7 Michael Herrington on the final lap taking the led to the checkered flag passing #9 Whittington at the end for the win. The top #5 finishers were #7 Herrington, #9 Whittington, #5 Miller, #01 Morgan, #02 Olsen.

Thanks to Donald Watson and his staff for the wonderful racing facility and the hospitality you give to the CSA see you guys next race.

Rusty Sanford returns to Southern Raceway with a Victory!
by Wendy Carrier

It looked like the Cajuns were going to be faced with another rainout, but after a "race dance" from the fans, the rain held off until the checkered flags fell and the feature ended.

16 cars traveled to Milton, FL., for what turned out to be a great show and fast race.

Heat I
This race was super fast with a much anticipated return of #28 Rusty Sanford who was injured last year in a terrible accident resulting in surgery on both ankles. As this race began, #28 Sanford quickly took the lead and kept  it for the remaining 7 laps to take the win followed by #7 Michael Herrington,#09 Timmy Thrash, #2 Todd Fayard, #02 Brandon Olsen and #22 Mark Roth.

Heat II
As these guys hit the track it was #9 Lane Whittington that was fierce taking the led to the end with #20 Casey Hinds hot on his tail and #68 Terry Vidrine, #31 Willie Stauffer and #19 Rodney Mckenzie to the checkered flag.

Heat III
This race started with #06 Jason Breeland racing hard to take the lead and winning this heat followed by #5 Michael Miller, #01 Shane Morgan, #83 Herman Carrier and #38 Ryan Moore rounding out the heat races.

In preparation for the feature line-up, the top 8 in points for the night each picked a child from out of the stands to draw numbers for starting position in the feature.  In return, each child was given a die cast sprint car provided by the official CSA souvenir trailer.

With rain on the way,  the feature race was quickly pushed ahead and rushed to the track for the start of the event. At the drop of the green flag it was again #28 Rusty Sanford proving he was indeed ready to return to competition. With only two cautions during the race, and rain on the way, this feature was set into motion quickly and precisely. #28 Sanford fought hard to keep the rest of the field behind him and in the end it paid off     for a victory with the following rounding out the finishing order, #9 Whittington, #01 Morgan, #7 Herrington, #09 Thrash, #68 Vidrine, #5 Miller, #31 Stauffer, #83 Carrier, #02 Olsen, #2 Fayard, #19 McKenzie, #22 Roth, #06 Breeland, #20 Hinds and #38 Moore taking the checkered flag to the finish.

The Cajun Sprinters Association would like to give a special thanks to TKB Motorsports for providing a hard charger award which was a nose wing and it went to # 83 Herman Carrier and a case of oil that went to the winner #28 Rusty Sanford.

Thanks to Southern Raceway and its staff for a great racing facility, wonderful fans, and as always, an awesome time. See you next time!!!

A Grand Entrance for a Grand Opening
A-1 Raceway, April 10th
Wendy Carrier

As 21 Cajun Sprinters entered the gates of A-1 Raceway for their grand opening it was the smell of crawfish that filled air. It turned out the be a fun family filled night on a great track , for the 21 Sprinters that came for some dirt slinging fun…..

Heat I

This heat looked to be a fast one with the well known #00 Michael Dupuy from Amite to jump into the led and keeping it for all eight laps. It was #7 Michael Herrington, #01 Shane Morgan, #02 Brandon Olsen and #83 Herman “The Hermanator” Carrier  rounding out the top 5 in heat 1.

Heat II

As the second heat hit the track it was the #2 Todd Fayard of Gulfport took the led with the tough battle brewing behind him with the #14 Chris Hoyt and rookie #11 Carl Zaniboni for eight laps of slinging dirt ,followed behind by the #68 Terry Vidrine, #59 Kevin Newton and #19 Rodney McKenzie for the finishing 5.

Heat III

It was #9 Lane Whittington all the way followed by the #32 Hunter Phillips and his new car treating him well for second and  rounding out the field was #32m Moe Douroux, #17 Adam Moneyhun, #15 Justin Mckenzie and the #22 Mark Roth ending that heat.

As the A Main feature race rolled around it turned out to be a super fast race track. With the drop of the green flag, it was on with #9 Whittington taking the led, but by lap 2 the unfortunate accident happened with the #00 Dupuy and #14 Hoyt slapping wheels and sending the #14 of Hoyt upside down and through for the night. On the restart, race traffic prevailedfor the next few laps and # 7 Herrington held off the fight of cars behind him. By lap 7, #00 Dupuy took over 2nd behind #9 Whittington, and as the race went on lap by lap, in and out of traffic it was the #9 Whittington taking his 99th win of his career, with #00 Michael Dupuy, and team mates #01 Shane Morgan & #02 Brandon Olsen for 3rd and 4th  place followed by #32m Moe Douroux rounding out the top five feature finish.

A thanks to Ronnie Marshall and his staff for a great track we can not wait to return……

Next race, Southern Raceway, Milton, Florida, April 24th!!!

Whittington takes the first win of the 2010 season

The 2010 season kicked off at Baton Rouge Raceway with a full field of 20 cars from across the south to open the Cajun Sprinters season.

Heat I started off caution free with #9 Lane Whittington jumping out in front to take the lead and  the win with  #09 Timmy Thrash and #36 Chris Thornton following.

Heat II had #32 Hunter Phillips leading most of the laps in this exciting heat full of some of the fastest cars hot on his trail, but the young driver held on for 6 laps until the #01 of Shane Morgan came around for the win, with the #32 Hunter Phillips and #02 Brandon Olsen rounding out the top three.

Heat III looked like a feature line up, but when the green flag fell it was the #68 Terry Vidrine who led every lap to take the win with #7 Michael Herrington and #14 Chris Hoyt finishing the top three.

Heat IV got off to a great start with another caution free race with #49 Ty Johnson taking the lead and keeping it to take the win followed by #31 Willie Stauffer and #17 Adam Moneyhun ending the heats.

By the time the feature race line-up  had begun, the top eight in points had to draw for starting position putting the #31 Willie Stauffer on pole. As the green flag dropped, the first caution was called when the #9 Lane Whittington got sideways collecting the #32m Moe Douroux, cutting his night short and sending the #06 Jason Breeland to the rear. As the race restarted on lap four, the red was thrown when the #36 of Chris Thornton,  who took a hard hit,  flipped into the wall demolishing his new car, but he escaped just a little shakin’ up. Then on lap six, caution was called for the #31 of Willie Stauffer, ending his night as well.

After the track was cleared and the green flag flew once again it was wheel to wheel action with several lead changes then the battle was on for the #01 Shane Morgan and the #9 Lane Whittington swapping spots all the way to the checkered flag with the #9 Lane Whittington taking the first win of the 2010 season followed by #01 Shane Morgan, #68 Terry Vidrine, #02 Brandon Olsen and #14 Chris Hoyt for your top 5 finishing order.

The Cajun Sprinters would like to take Donald Watson and his staff for the wonderful and super fast track they provided for us. We can not wait to return.
